What is CNG?

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is a domestic, cost-effective, readily available alternative transportation fuel. CNG is drawn from domestic natural gas wells, and is made by compressing natural gas to less than 1% of its volume at standard atmospheric pressure. It is currently used in a wide spectrum of commercial fleets ranging from street sweepers to school buses to taxi cabs, as well as a growing variety of residential vehicles.

Advantages

The steady, rising growth of CNG vehicles is attributed to its numerous benefits, particularly the fact that it is the most economic and eco-friendly transportation fuel available today.
• Natural gas costs up to 50% less than gasoline or diesel at the pump
• It also provides increased life-cycle savings in the form of reduced maintenance costs, less frequent tune-ups/oil changes and longer vehicle lifespans
• Available incentives, including up to $250,000 per year in commercial rebates, can also offset the cost of making the switch
• Natural gas is far cleaner than traditional gasoline or diesel fuel, reducing carbon dioxide by up to 30% and toxic emissions by up to 90%

Plus, did you know that…?
• CNG vehicles run quieter than gasoline-fueled vehicles, and have no exhaust fumes
• CNG vehicles have much greater range and stronger horsepower than electric vehicles
• Using natural gas as an alternative fuel can help reduce the billions the U.S. spends on foreign oil every week (not to mention, Florida’s $4 billion-a-month tab)
• There are an estimated 120,000 NGVs on American roads today, and 1-in-5 transit buses in the U.S. now run on natural gas
